What We Leave Behind Developmental Reading

Capital Arts Theater Guild is partnering with Theatre Raleigh to foster the development of the new musical, What We Leave Behind, from it’s staged readings for public audiences this January, where the writers will be provided a wealth of feedback from various sources, including professional panelists as well as audience members, culminating in a full production premiere in Theatre Raleigh’s Main Stage Season in October!

Previously Melvin could be seen traveling across the country in the 1st National Broadway Tour Ain’t Too Proud: The Life and Times of the Temptations (Swing/Dance Captain). Broadway’s Seth Rudetsky returns to Theatre Raleigh with a brand new show, Divas by the Decade!

Seth has been on Broadway for more than 20 years as an actor, writer, pianist and conductor. He is currently the afternoon deejay on the SiriusXM Broadway channel and hosts the show ‘Seth Speaks’. 

ASBX Live: Detective Stories – Presented by Capital Arts Theatre Guild

Laugh out Loud: Black and Proud – Black Magic

Triangle Sketch Comedy is bringing the magic of Black folklore and fairy tales to life, with a modern twist, and we want YOU to be part of it. From exploring workplace BS and microaggressions to celebrating unity and reproductive rights, the writers are hard at work crafting sketches that will make you laugh, think, and feel.

Recommended only for Mature Audiences

TR In Concert: Eva Noblezada

March 8th, 2025 at 7:30 PM| De Ann S. Jones Theatre

Eva Noblezada won a Grammy and was nominated for a Tony for starring on Broadway as the original Euridice in Hadestown. It was Eva’s second Tony nomination in her first two Broadway roles, following her earlier nod in the title role of Miss Saigon in 2017. She also starred in Hadestown at the National Theatre in London and in the West End revivals of Miss Saigon and Les Misérables. Eva starred as Daisy in the world premiere musical adaptation of The Great Gatsby at Paper Mill Playhouse. 

TR In Concert: Oren and Krystin Bailey 

March 15th, 2025 at 7:30 PM | Cabaret Theatre

Oren and Krystin Bailey are a married musical duo (also known as Twobloom) local to Raleigh NC. They met five years ago at a concert and have been singing with and loving one another ever since. Krystin and Oren were both raised with a love for music groups like The Carpenters, Fleetwood Mac, and The Bee Gees. This classic rock and indie influence can be heard in the music they create and play with one another. They perform live music frequently around the triangle, and provide music education at Wake County Schools with their acapella group Transit Vocal Band. The duo has played many pre show performances at Theatre Raleigh, and can’t wait to share their original music with their band this March!
 

The Trip to Bountiful 

March 26 – April 6, 2025 | De Ann S. Jones Theatre

Horton Foote’s TONY-winning play tells the moving story of Carrie Watts, an elderly Southern woman who dreams of escaping the bustling city to return to rural Bountiful, Texas. She sets out on a risky journey to her beloved hometown with her family in hot pursuit. Along the way, she encounters kindness and compassion … and discovers the true meaning of home. This classic American drama is a touching portrait of family, what we hold onto, and what we leave behind.

Main Stage single tickets will go on sale February 24, 2025.

Peter and the Starcatcher

June 11 – 22, 2025 | De Ann S. Jones Theatre

The Tony-winning play, based on the best-selling novels, upends the century-old story of how an orphan boy becomes the legendary Peter Pan.

Peter and the Starcatcher playfully explores the depths of greed and despair… and the bonds of friendship, duty and love. Though not a musical, this play incorporates musical elements to create its magical storytelling.  This production uses ingenious stagecraft and imaginative innovation to bring the story to life. While Peter and the Starcatcher is not considered a children’s show, it is appropriate for young people 8 years and older.

Waitress

August 6 – 24, 2025 | De Ann S. Jones Theatre 

One of the most beloved Broadway musicals in recent seasons makes its way to Theatre Raleigh!

Featuring unforgettable music and lyrics by Grammy Award winner Sara Bareilles, the story centers on Jenna, a baker who dreams of escaping her job, small town and rocky marriage. Adapted from the 2007 film, it’s an uplifting and inspiring celebration of friendship, motherhood, and the magic of a homemade pie. Waitress promises to be a sweet slice of musical heaven!

What We Leave Behind

Sept 24 – Oct 5, 2025 | De Ann S. Jones Theatre

What We Leave Behind is a profound and timely musical exploring the impact of chronic illness on a family. When musical theatre composer Jenny receives a diagnosis of breast cancer, it seems as though her world has come crashing down around her, but what a journey she embarks on. Written and composed by husband-and-wife team Jenny Giering and Sean Barry and based upon their shared journey, What We Leave Behind is a compelling one-woman musical, addressing some of the most pressing questions of our time with both heartwarming humor and heart-wrenching honesty.

Once on This Island

Nov 12 – 23, 2025 | De Ann S. Jones Theatre

This is a highly original and theatrical Caribbean adaptation of the popular fairy tale The Little Mermaid. Once on a Caribbean island, a little girl is rescued from a disastrous storm by four gods—Asaka, Mother of the Earth; Agwé, god of Water; Erzulie, goddess of Love; and Papa Ge, demon of Death. So starts the myth told in this breathtaking story of joy, sorrow and the triumph of love against all forces. Told with Caribbean rhythms and instruments, this Tony Award-winning musical is a testament that a beautiful story simply told has the power to inspire and heal all.
